City to Bay- "From City to Blisters"

24/9/2010

This years city to bay was a cracker! Perched at the finish line we massaged, kneaded, and even got to touch celebrity tooshy! (even if it was just to change his stitches dressing, we still thought it was pretty good!). In addition to massaging runners and patching up A-Lister's, we found ourselves dealing with a sea of blisters. Small blisters, large blisters, deep and shallow, we saw them all. This got us thinking..... Many of the runners had spent hours upon hours training for the city to bay, yet only a few had preparing their feet for the run. So we've decided to write a list of some of the simple ways you can prepare your feet for the race.

  1. Make sure your feet are nice and dry- in some cases Antiperspirant agents can be used.
  2. Wear good shoes - make sure you also check for seems and areas that could rub
  3. Neoprene insoles will reduce the likely hood of blisters on the soles of your feet
  4. Wear silicon toe covers if you've had blisters between your toes before
  5. Wear acrylic-based socks that reduce the drag on your feet
  6. Pack some antiseptic and band-aids for the finish line just in case.

Novita's Ability First 'Walk with Me'

Today we walked with Novita in their annual "Walk with Me" challenge at the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. Pictured is our Head Podiatrist, Anna Morgan (Left) with Novita Ambassador and Inspirational Speaker, Michele Colmer (right). Michele has been unrelenting in her quest to rebuild her entire life following a tragic accident and her story leaves a footprint that is both rich and authentic. Along with PERSISTENCE Michele reminds us that life needs to be lived and enjoyed! Michele is a close friend and a familiar face to the Podantics team and were honored to have walked with her today.

We love our sports, and running is no exception! As you can imagine, foot problems are incredibly common amongst runners, so, to do our part, Podantics will be helping out at the 2010 Sunday Mail Fun City-Bay Fun Run this September. We look forward to a great day of fun filled adventure and look forward to assisting the runners as they arrive at the finish line.  We will be working at the SAFM tent along side the fabulous girls from Bodyline Health, so if your in the area, come down and say hi!

August 2010- What a rush!

Its been a crazy over the past month at Podantics. Firstly we have officially merged Malvern Podiatry Clinic, Hyde Park Podiatry and Podantics together into our new clinic at 248 Unley Rd, Hyde Park. There is still a lot to do but we are certainly on our way! We have also played host to 3 of the sweetest podiatry students this week with a little biomechanics boot camp to help them with their studies. And as if that wasnt enough adventure, we've had new floor boards installed at magill, designed new signage for unley, have worked on developing a new range of creams, have given advice for the radio, and have been working on our key note speach for the Allied Health Network Australia at the Hilton this month as well as 100 other things.  WOW what a month!
No one is ever bored around us, but then, thats the way we like it. Keeping it fresh, keeping it modern and keeping it real!
